I’ve been catching up on a lot of reads I’ve been working through or putting off. I’ve also been stress-eating sugar. Lots of sugar.
Stress cleaning. Stress crying. Real crying. Staring into space and generally doing a bunch of random things as I sit with Mems.
So let’s continue to escape reality with books!
(I did have therapy this week so I promise I’m trying to be healthy in approaching this stage of life.)
PS It’s Always Been You - What will I read when I run out of Lauren Blakely backlog?
This is the last in the ‘Always Satisfied’ series. It’s really cute. Long lost loves on a scavenger hunt of sorts across New York City.
The lead characters are cute and have lots of chemistry, and I love a good mystery— this one with an old-time romance in the circus world.
Tell Me What You Did - read on NetGalley.
I got an ARC copy of this but did not finish it before its release day.
This is a fun little thriller.
Poe is a podcast host who allows criminals to share their stories. She’s also closed off emotionally, the daughter of a crime victim and a woman with a dark secret.
Enter a twisty and dark tormentor who knows her secrets and wants revenge.
I liked this. It’s not my typical type of read, but I like mixing it up. This is a quick read and not as gruesome as other thrillers I’ve tried.
As an avid true crime podcast listener,I especially appreciated that angle.
Joyful Recollections of Trauma -
Paul Scheer hosts one of my most favorite podcasts ‘How Did This Get Made?’ He’s married to June Diane Raphael. He’s hysterical.
Also I am in love with Jason Mantzoukas.
Anyway this book is A. LOT.
The first 50 pages I got traumatized. Paul’s childhood had a lot of darkness that he’s joked about on the pod before but to sit and read it in one sitting is overwhelming.
After that I took a step back. But I’ve been sitting my Mems bed a lot so I’m catching up on books.
I am glad I came back to this book. It’s hilarious and heartfelt. Paul’s traumatic childhood gave way to some real elements of growth and work to overcome things. He also just looks at the world like no one else and can tell a good story.
Highly recommend.
